Lucas convinced me to wear matching shirts for a morning walk. I rolled my eyes and still did it, because that’s our thing. We walked along the water with the city skyline in front of us, laughing at how touristy we looked.
Then he got quiet. Not awkward quiet, just focused. He pulled me a little closer, like he wanted to keep me there for a second longer, and asked if I could imagine doing every morning like this for the rest of our lives.
When I looked down and saw the ring on my hand, it took a beat for my brain to catch up. I smiled so hard my cheeks hurt. He smiled too, like he’d been waiting for that exact expression.
