Scott said we should take a walk before dinner, barefoot, no phones, just ocean air. The sun was low and everything felt softer, like the day was trying to slow us down on purpose. We held hands the whole time, and he kept looking at me like he was about to say something, then smiling instead.
I was talking about nothing, the kind of small talk you make when you are happy, and he stopped me mid sentence with that look. The one that says, I’m here. I’m sure.
We didn’t do anything dramatic. We just kept walking, laughing, letting the waves chase our feet. Later, when I saw the ring on my hand catch that warm sunset light, it felt like the ocean itself had signed off on the moment.
Some days are made for memories. This one became a promise.
