We didn’t plan anything big that day. Just a slow walk, warm light, and that quiet kind of sunset that makes you talk softer without realizing it. Marco kept holding my hand like he was trying to steady himself. I teased him about it, and he smiled, but his eyes gave him away.
We stopped in the tall grass and he pulled me in close, like he wanted to keep the whole world at a distance for a minute. Then he whispered, “Look at me.” I did, and everything changed.
I remember laughing first. Not because it was funny, but because I couldn’t fit all the feelings into one breath. When he opened the box, the ring looked unreal in that golden light. I said yes so fast I surprised myself.
